US Post WWI 'Capture The Cooties' Game

Sold
$50.00

Description

Original period manufacture. Interesting hand-held game, the object of which is to 'capture' the two small cootie BB's in the wire cage at the top. The board shows a color litho image of a trench scene. Cootie's of course was the WWI slang term for body lice. In fact, a fraternal orginization was formed, Order of the Cootie, 'Closer than a brother, Busier than a Bee'. The directions state that the game is good for the nerves and is adequate for up to twelve players. Since only two cooties remain, looks like some have escaped over the years.Chicago retailers name on the reverse. Measures 5x4x1 inches, back pushed in slightly, which likely accounts for the missing cooties.
