Description

Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, produced by Mansfield & Lamb in 1865. The blade is bright with no issues and runs straight and true. Minor spotting to the blade surface, no corrosion issues. U.S.GEW & 1865 proof on the obverse ricasso, the reverse has a very clear Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale R.I. logo. Original leather bumper at the base of the blade. The brass three branch guard and pommel cap displaying a mellow brass patina finish, no denting or distortion of the guard. The original leather wrapped grip is intact, with a scuffed finish, showing wear of the original surface. Bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Dent free steel scabbard with two suspension rings, the surface showing very light surface patina. Overall, this old sword is quite sound, tight, with no rattling, and is in uncleaned attic condition. As honest as they come...
