Although missing the suspension, this is a clean example of a Tiffany designed medal issued in 1866, and awarded to West Virginia soldiers who served during the Civil War.It is named to Gottleib Durst, Co. A, Exempt, Independent Volunteer Infantry on the edge of the planchet. He enlisted on October 1st 1862, discharge date unknown.
