Description

Vietnam Era RT 196 PRC 6/6 Handie Talkie-This is an original Vietnam War Era German Army (Bundeswehr) PRC6-6 Radio Receiver Transmitter and that is  called the 'Handie Talkie'. This radio was made under a license, by the US Company Raytheon, for the German army. Raytheon made these radios for the British army, Israeli army and many other countries. This has been the standard radio, and I have heard it was used by the US as recently as the first Gulf War in Iraq. This radio has the ability to use 6 channels, which are switched by the knob near the antenna. The long, green antenna folds down and can be secured under the side clips. This is very interesting as it has German instructions and labels. This has the original green canvas sling still attached. This is a large handset. The handset measures 14 inches (35.56cm). The attached whip antennae measures 24 inches (60.96cm). The range of this radio would be approx. one mile (1.5 km), but of course, much less in the jungle or thick forest. There is an optional handset H-33'/PT that is connected to the AN/PRC-6 by a 5 ft (1.5 m) black curled cable. This radio weighs 6 pounds, just imagine carrying this thing with your other gear. Ouch! It is in very good condition and would look great on display. We have not tested it to see if it works. Extra shipping may apply as this is a big radio.
