Sold
$495.00

Description

Original era manufacture. Classic Civil War, US Navy cutlass which as the story goes, were still in the arms lockers of US Navy Destroyers during WWII...'Away Boarders.' I wonder if the US Navy boarding party on the U-505 were carrying any of these?Polished steel blade measuring 26 inches in length in very clean condition, AMES 1862 markings which are quite clear for an Ames blade. No corrosion issues, rung straight and true with no evidence of sharpening. We have not made any attempt at cleaning this up, with a light intelligently done bath this will brighten up nicely. Sheet brass cupped guard with brass pommel, no dings or dents with a pleasing patina finish. Ridged wooden grip with about 40% of it's original black leather covering remaining. Correct pattern black leather scabbard with copper seam rivets on one side. Missing the frog stud and with a break about 2/3rds the way down it's length. Brass chape at the tip.
