Description

Original era manufacture. Standard 1860 pattern cavalry sword, with a 34 inch polished steel blade, running fairly straight, with some nail catches in the cutting edge. No issues to the blade beyond typical staining and spotting from age, no corrosion damage. U.S. & 1863 proof on the obverse ricasso, with faint inspector initials of DR between. the reverse is unmarked, so possibly Ames mfg. Brass three branch guard and pommel cap, displaying typical age and wear. Fresh marks of peening to the top of the blade tang, where the sword pommel cap was tightened up a bit. Original leather wrapped grip showing scuffing to the leather surfaces, the twisted wire binding is intact. scattered areas of surface loss, mostly on the top of the grip and just below the pommel cap. Rack numbers stamped into the guard, 693. Steel scabbard with a dark patina finish, showing scattered areas of surface denting from service use. The blade draws easily from the scabbard.
