Description

Original period manufacture. An interesting lot, no doubt souvenired by a GI immediately after the end of WWII. The Platterhof Hotel was part of the Berghof complex at Obersalzburg, standing quite close to Hitler's home. Originally opened in 1878 as the Pension Moritz, renamed the Platterhof in 1928, rebuilt in the 1930's as a luxery hotel for visiting dignitaries to the Berghof. In 1943 it was repurposed as a military hospital. It suffered bomb damage during Allied raids later in the war, it was repaired and renamed the General Walker Hotel and used as a US Armed Forces Recreation Center. Most of the buildings were destroyed in 2001. The lot consists of 20 x 40 inch cotton towel, with an embroidered design and lettering, 'Der Platterhof-Topftuch'. Six 1930's era souvenir postcards of the hotel and it's grounds, lastly two black and white photos of a subterranean passage way and another view of the hotel.
