US Early Issue Purple Heart, Numbered & Named, Matching Number Box, USMC WWI

Sold
$295.00

Description

Original period manufacture. Early issue Purple Heart missing it's ribbon and suspension. Numbered on the edge 49657, which matches the hand written number on the box label, and named to Chauncey H. Wilder. Ancestry provides numerous listings for that name as a Marine who served during WWI. These muster roll listings date from May 1917 to April 1919, showing service in France in April 1918 with the 78th Company, 6th Marines AEF. This was a fortuitous reunite, as the collection we purchased was a jumble-tumble pile of material, with the medal in one storage box, and the box itself in another.
