US M1906 Cavalry Sword and Sheath, AS. CO. 1906

Original era manufacture. Based on the US M1860 Cavalry sword but with a steel guard. The polished steel blade measures 35 inches in length, running straight and true, the blade remains bright, displaying evidence of an old intelligent cleaning, with the point remaining sharp. Scattered minor nail catchers along the cutting edge. Stamped into the obverse ricasso is ASCO 1906, and on the reverse, US. Black finished, leather covered wooden grip with single twisted wire binding, which in my opinion is an old restoration effort done many years ago. Steel guard and pommel with a blackened finish, perhaps paint. Correct steel scabbard, with the close-set suspension ring loops, bright finish, again from an old restoration effort. Steel rivet on the reverse side of the throat holding the blade guide in position.
