German, Imperial Era, M1889 Issue Cavalry Sword & Scabbard Hermes

Sold
$475.00

Description

Original era manufacture. German Model 1889 pattern enlisted sword and scabbard, maker marked F. A. Hermes, Solingen, with issue marks on the spine of Crown W 9. Since the spine is rounded where the issue stamps are, the second digit of the year date did not take, in addition, the export mark GERMANY appears below the makers name. The blade is clean, measuring 32 inches in length, with scattered shallow nicks in the edge, along with evidence of an old, light sharpening attempt. Steel basket guard with the Imperial Eagle, brown composition grips with no cracks or chips. Proper steel scabbard with a single, rigid-type suspension loop, minor denting, with evidence of an old cleaning to the surface.
