JAPANESE COMPASS - LACQUERED WOOD CASE

Unusual, vintage Japanese compass. 7 cms diameter woden case with lacquered finish and red Japanese writing. Pull off lid reveals a simple, small ( 2cms) compass surrounded by a dial bearing numerous Japanese markings which may be numbers or ??? Around the compass the words North South east West appear on 'English' suggesting that this is a piece made for the tourist or export markets. Very unusual item, Grade 8+
