Description

Here on offer is a fine example of an antique 'Duke of Wellington' Staffordshire Pottery Character Jug, circa 1830. After the Duke of Wellington's victory at Waterloo in 1815, a number of commemorative souvenir items where made and these finely detailed character jugs where made depicting the Duke in his uniform. They where all hand painted in a number of different coloured finishes, this example being made with a white hat, blue uniform and coloured epaulettes. There are no maker marks but it's made out of finely glazed English Staffordshire Pottery. It is excellent condition for its age, with just a couple of minor hairline cracks, one to the rear of the hat and one to the front. (please see my pictures). There is also a tiny section of black paint missing from his left eye that could be easily touched in is so required. I prefer to leave it in its current naturally aged condition. The jug makes a great display piece and a great addition for any Duke of Wellington collection. The jug is 7.1” (18cm) high and 5” (12.7cm) wide at the base. It weighs a heavy 505g. Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description. Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched. The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.
