Rare Antique 19th Century Japanese Repousse Solid Silver Tiger and Dragon Motif Belt Buckle

Sold
£175.00

Description

Here on offer is a truly fine example of a rare 19th century Meiji period, Japanese repoussé solid silver Tiger and Dragon motif belt buckle. The front depicts a stylised Tiger on the left half of the buckle and a Dragon on the right half. On the reverse, each half is stamped with the number 84 and two Japanese Kanji/Chrysanthemum marks. I believe from some research that these types of markings were used in late 19th century by Russian Silversmiths working in Japan at time of Russo/Japan conflict of that period. There are no silver content marks, but it does test as .800 grade silver. It measures 2.75” (7cm) wide and weighs 47g. The buckle is in excellent condition, with very minor age related surface scratches. Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description. Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched. The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.
