France : Model 1842 Sabre-bayonet Complete with Scabbard.

Available
£195.00

Description

This brass-hilted hefty bayonet was the predecessor of the more common Model 1866 'Chassepot' bayonet. Grooved cast brass grip with working spring clip. Overall length of the bayonet in its steel scabbard is 71cms. The scabbard has no dents or dings and the bayonet blade is clean with only minor age staining. The back of the blade is engraved with the abbreviated French state arsenal name and date 'Manufacture Imperiale de Châtellerault - Janvier 1864 - Sabre Bayonet Mod.1842'. There are numerous numbers and inspection marks on the bayonet grip and the scabbard throat is numbered '217'. A nice example. PAYMENT BY CHEQUE OR BANK-TRANSFER ONLY PLEASE. BUYERS OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE ONLY. UK CUSTOMERS ONLY - I WILL NOT POST WEAPONS ABROAD.
