Here we have another 1st Infantry Division variation. Embroidered in silk thread possibly English. Removed from uniform slight wear and service wear. The division landed in Oran, Algeria on 8 November 1942 as part of Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of French North Africa. In July 1943, the division took part in the Allied invasion of Sicily, code named Operation Husky, still under the command of Major General Allen. Lieutenant General George S. Patton. The 1st Infantry Division and one regimental combat team from the 29th Infantry Division comprised the first wave of troops that assaulted German Army defenses on Omaha Beach on D-Day. The division fought through France, Ardennes Belgium and into Germany. Casualties were KIA1973 wounded 11448 Missing 951 POW 631.
