France : Commemorative Medal of the 1870–1871 War.

Franco-Prussian War bronze 30mm dia medal complete with original pin-back ribbon. The obverse shows an effigy of the 'warrior republic' in the form of a helmeted woman's bust wearing armour with around the circumference the inscription 'Republique Francaise'. The reverse shows a trophy of arms. As France was heavily defeated in this war, it took until 1911 before this medal was introduced to recognise veterans of the conflict.
