Description

Here on offer is an excellent example of an antique ALL bone folding fruit knife, circa 1880. The whole of this knife, apart from the four brass pins, is made from solid bone or a similar fine-grained natural material. These fruit knives where popular back in the Victorian period and where often bought as souvenirs, but not many survive especially in as good condition as this example. The single bladed pocketknife has been beautifully hand made, possibly in Sheffield, in exactly the same style as the more usual silver-bladed mother of pearl handled versions. The blade opens and closes smoothly and there is actually has very slight natural curve to the whole knife/blade. The natural graining of the material clearly evident on one side and the blade shows no nobbles or signs of damage. This would make a great addition to any knife collection. The blade measures 3” (7.6cm) long and the knife is 6.1” (15.5cm) when open. It weighs 10g. Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
