Large French Bronze Medal - 2nd Prize - in the 10th international competition of the interpretation of the French melodies in 1966

Here on offer is a fine example of a large French bronze medal that was awarded to Anne Duparcq for a 2nd prize in the 10th international competition of the interpretation of the French melodies in 1966. The medal was designed by the famous French medallist, Marie Alexandre Lucien COUDRAY (1864-1932). A pupil of Dumont and Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. Awarded the Premier Grand Prix de Rome de gravure en médailles in 1893 and the silver medal at the Universal Exposition of 1900. On the obverse it depicts: A beautiful Art Nouveau image of the Greek mythology musician Orpheus with a lyre. Next to his head is engraved, L Coudray. On the reverse it depicts: The winged image of an angel with a trumpet and quill above a laurel branch and a violin. At the top are the words: CONCOURS EXCELLENCE Within the rectangular plaque in the centre are the medal award details: 2 EME PRIX (2nd Prize) ANNE DUPARCQ The edge is plain apart from it has the Paris maker's mark and the word BRONZE stamped into it. Stamped around the edge are the words: Xe CONCOURS INTERNATIONAL D' INTERPRETATION DELA MELODIE FRANCAISE 1966 This translates to: 10th INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF INTERPRETATION OF THE FRENCH MELODIE 1966 There is also a tiny maker's mark and the word BRONZE stamped into it The medal measures 2.7” (6.8cm) diameter and weighs a heavy 159g.
