Pakistan Navy 50th Anniversary 1947-1997 - Large Gilt Bronze Cased Medallion

Here on offer is a rare and unusual large commemorative gilt bronze medallion that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Pakistan Navy back in 1947. I can't find any reference to this medallion and given the superb quality of the casting, I suspect it was made for a high raking Navy official. It comes with its original grey felt lined plastic case. The medallion is very heavy and I believe is cast from bronze with a thick and beautifully applied gilt finish. The obverse of the medallion depicts the raised image of the Pakistan Navy surrounded by an oval ribbon with the words: 50 YEARS OF COMMANDING THE SEAS PAKISTAN NAVY 1947 - 1997 The reverse has the image of a Pakistan Navy frigate from the 1990's. The medallion measures 2.75” (7cm) diameter and weighs a heavy 196g. Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
