Impressive WW1 Trench Art Crucifix made from Bullets and Cartridge Cases

Description

Here on offer is a fine piece of WW1 Trench Art, being a Crucifix made from used bullets and brass cartridge cases. From some research I have done it appears these crucifixes where probably commercially produced from two French 8mm lebel cartridge cases with three German bullet projectiles forming the cross at the top. The figure of Christ, formed from pressed brass has then been fitted to the front of the cross. In this case a further bullet has been used to mount the cross onto a really ornate brass triangular base. This piece looks to have been through WW1 as there are cleaning wear (rubbing) to the image of Christ and the bullet cross is slightly bent at the top. With its ornate base this example is a cut above the rest and makes an impressive display piece. It measures 7” (17.7cm) high and the triangular base has 4” (10.2cm) sides. It weighs 183g.
