WW1 (RFC) Royal Flying Corps Gilt Cap Badge Sweetheart Brooch

Here on offer is an excellent example of a WW1 (RFC) Royal Flying Corps, gilt cap badge sweetheart brooch. I believe this brooch started life as an RFC Cap Badge, but the rear fixing lugs have been removed and a “C” clasp and long pin professionally fitted in their place, so it could act as a brooch. The RFC pilots loved giving these to their ladies as love tokens, at a time when the pilot's life could end with the next mission. The brooch itself is in excellent condition, still retaining its gilt finish and all it's original crisp detail. It measures 1.2” (3cm) wide by 1.4” (3.4cm) high.
