Description

Superb condition leather case with gold Imperial Crown impressed on lid. Case interior of velvet and silk again in superb condition. Sterling marked Cross is in mint condition and is complete with its original issue purple silk ribbon. The Cross is named to the reverse 2014372 SPR W BUSTIN. William Bustin was an Englishman born in Manchester on 25/11/1886 and in 1914 he emigrated to the USA. In 1918 he went to Canada and attested in the Canadian Engineers on August 18th 1918. The unfortunate William died only 2 months later of influenza/pneumonia on October 3rd 1918, a victim of the global pandemic. He never made it overseas and left behind a wife and children. His Memorial Cross was sent to his wife. The Cross retains its original and very rare condolence card which exhibits some creasing. Also supplied is a handwritten condolence card from William's fellow workmates. This excellent Memorial Cross is complete with reams of printed out research on William Bustin, attestation, grave photo, emigration details including ship info etc etc. A fantastic complete set! Ex Gordon Williamson collection.
