Imperial : German Imperial Prussian Kavallerie Lion-head Dress-sword.

Excellent dress sabre with very detailed full gilt lion-head hilt with ruby eyes and ray-skin covered grip with all grip-wire intact. The front langet has crossed lances, swords and wreath design whilst the reverse langet has an escutcheon. The hilt back-strap is also decorated. The clean blade is beautifully etched along the back and on both sides with floriated designs. There are no visible maker's details (possibly behind the langets ?) but the guard is stamped near the base of the 85cm long blade with 'Geschüztes Muster' (protected pattern). The bruniert / blued-steel scabbard is in excellent condition with only a slight kink at the bottom end. The scabbard has both hanger fixed-ring & slot fitting. Overall length in scabbard is 101cms.
