German WWI 98/05 Bayonet, Schutzpolizei Issue 1920, Mauser Mfg

Original period manufacture. An unusual variant of a standard 98/05 pattern bayonet, which has had it's pommel modified by having the lock mechanism removed and a V-shaped notch cut into it's top. These were issued to German Schutzpolizei units in the 1920's to be used as a sidearm. Very clean blade which is maker marked by Waffenfabrik, Mauser and is crown proofed and dated 17 on its spine, unit marked on the guard S.B.O.I.410 R.. Nice serrated wood grips, dark steel patina to pommel and guard. Blue steel scabbard with a few small dents. Scarce bayonet modification.
