Sold
$95.00

Description

Original era manufacture. A nicely rendered inkwell made from a brass fuze and bullets gathered during WWII. All sit upon an oak base, with an inscription on the bottom. The inscription, written on three strips of surgical tape reads as follows; 'I bought this inkwell from a British soldier in Le Harve France. They made things like this in their spare time from German ammo in World War One. Ralph L. Johns 1918.'Doing a quick look on Ancestry, I found two men named Ralph Johns, one a 2nd Lt of Cavalry, and the other a Private in the 124th Infantry regiment. The base has a crack in the top, and one of the split bullets forming the pen rest is missing. Base measures 5 x 5 inches.
