Description

Original period manufacture. Fusil-Modele 1866, the famous 11mm Chassepot of the Franco-Prussian War. Our example is made in 1867, one of the millions of the type which served the French Army until 1874. The metal is in the bright, showing evidence of an old cleaning, except for the barrel bands and butt plate which exhibit an old patina finish. The serial number 29953 can be seen on the base of the barrel, twice on the bolt mechanism, and on bottom of the left side stock face. The stock is free of cracks or repairs, exhibiting an old patina finish, with typical dings and dents from time and service use. The bore is bright with good rifling, the screwheads are in good shape, ramrod in place. I tried one of our Chassepot bayonets on the barrel and it fit just fine. US SALES ONLY.
