Post WW1 German Silesian Eagle 1st Class with Swords

Sold
£120.00

Description

A rare Silesian Eagle (Schlesischer Adler) was awarded to members of the German right-wing paramilitary group Freikorps for three or six months of service, as well as for fighting during the Silesian Uprisings during the Weimar Republic. Instituted June 1919, it was awarded with swords for fighting in the Battle of Annaberg which took place between May 21st and 26th 1921. This one the first with swords version highlighted with gilt and enamel with a gilt back and needle pin. There are many versions of this medal including an iron type by many different makers, so spotting replicas can be difficult, however most replicas I have seen have been made of a soft base metal or in one part. Originals were always made from 2 – 4 individual applied parts, this one has three applied parts and comes in very good condition showing slight wear and some toning to the gilt. It measures 1.25 x 1,75 inches.
