WW1 German Honour Cross with Swords. By Werner Redo

Available
£22.00

Description

Probably one of the most overlooked and under rated of all German medals. the Honour cross or Hindenburg Cross was issued in vast number but with numerous different variants and makers, it makes it an interesting and low budget collectable. It was instituted in the July 1934 by Paul von Hindenburg himself, and by government order, it replaced all other veteran medals issued. This medal is with cross swords, issued only to combatants who fought during WW1. The number of makers is unknown, but some estimate well over two hundred, many of which, no record survives. This one is marked with M.R. for Werner redo of Saalautern. A scarce maker of the Honour cross, he mainly concentrated on Party badges and Tinny's but also Eastern Front medals and sports badges are known It is in excellent original condition, retaining all its bronze finish. It comes on a good length of original ribbon, which is a little grubby.
