While King Birendra succeeded his father to the throne in 1972 - he was not actually crowned until five years later 1977 - the Silver Jubilee Medal being issued to commemorate the King's accession to the throne, rather than 25 years since his coronation! King Birendra was murdered on, 1 June 2001, together with Queen Aishwarya and nine other members of the royal family, in the infamous Royal Palace Massacre, carried out by the crazed Crown Prince Dipendra, who himself died a few days later from the effects of self-inflicted gunshot wounds Condition: VF
