Description
Original era manufacture. A very handsome example of this French inspired sword, made by the German firm of Horstman. The polished steel blade measures 34.5 inches in length, running straight and true. Elaborate etched panels on each side, on the obverse the American eagle, and on the reverse the letters U.S.. Elaborate cast brass guard and pommel with a red felt bumper at the base of the blade, which I believe to be a replacement. Fish skin wrapped grip bound with triple strand wire, minor surface wear to the grip covering. Plated finish to the steel scabbard body, showing light, minor denting and some finish loss on one side. Brass fittings throughout with all fitting screws present. A nice solid sword.
