Description
This is a genuine and scarce example which is much copied. It is die stamped silver plate with two original silvered loops to the reverse. It appears to have a gilt wash finish on the oval motto srcoll. A really lovely example with sharp detail and of superb quality, possibly officer/senior NCO issue. Circa 5.4cms tall. Circa 1868 - 1880.The Motto for this badge is Clanna nan Gaidheal a Gualibh Cheille which translates as Highlanders Shoulder to Shoulder. The motto reads 'Clanna nan Gaidheal ri guaillibh a cheille' which translates as The Clans of the Gael Stand Shoulder to Shoulder. Not to be confused with the badge for the Queen's Edinburgh Rifle Volunteers which is of a similar design but has a different motto ('Clann na Gaidheal a Gualibh Cheile' which translates as Highlanders Shoulder to Shoulder). The regiment was also known as the Glasgow Highland Regiment, and was formed in 1868 by a group of Highland migrants to Glasgow. When the RVCs were consolidated in 1880, the 105th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers was renumbered as the 10th (Glasgow Highland) Lanarkshire RVC.Comm DaMc (1)
