40th Regiment of Foot (Second Somersetshire) Other Ranks Brass Pre-Territorial Glengarry Badge

Sold
£65.00

Description

A genuine example with brass loops, east-west. Some damage to one loop which is fractured in the centre and has been reshaped into a strong loop, otherwise in good condition and scarce. I believe this is the larger pattern (see note below) at circa 7.1cms tall and 5cms wide. Worn 1872-1881. Became 2nd Battalion, Prince of Wales' Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment) in 1881. K&K Vol 1 no 490 refers (there is a smaller example shown as item 491).Comm DaMc (475)
