9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot Other Ranks Medium Brass Button, pre 1881 (No 5)

A pre 1881 other ranks button for the 9th Regt of Foot. Circa 18mm in diameter, grooved back with shank, maker marked E&Ws / Patent. Some slight loss of detail from polishing otherwise in very good condition and a scarce Irish maker. I have left the pipe cleaner on for the shank is fixed and difficult to display on a card without some means of attaching, but easily removed. See also my item 64213 for the same patented fixing groove but this also carries a maker mark for Peter Tait as well as E&Ws. Ripley No 96 refers. Comm DaSm
