16th/5th Queens Royal Lancers Officers Silver Plated Die Cast Collar Badge

A silver plated die cast collar badge with two original loops to reverse (plating worn off mainly on loops) QEII issue.The basis of the collar badge is the crown and crossed lances of the cap badges of the two parent regiments, but the central motif recalls the earlier histories of both. For the 16th, the ornate letter 'C' within the Garter is a reference to the honour title of 'Queen's', first granted in 1766 and so referring to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of George III. The circlet for the 5th recalls its Irish origins and heritage, both with the Irish Harp and with the motto from the Order of St. Patrick.Comm JoPa (54)
