WW2 Japanese Banzai Flag Signed by 40 School Children

These carried-in-battle national flags are considered very spiritual. They were most often made by friends and family for soldiers and sailors going off to war. The Japanese population supported their soldiers & sailors by making thousand stitch belts, going off to war banners, comfort bags loaded with goodies and collecting signatures on flags to be given to servicemen. Judging from the quality and quantity of the characters written here, these are undoubtedly written by school children who were not quite as capable of writing characters like a fully grown adult. This was done as a class project that helped the service member as well as the students who practiced their Kanji brush work. There are 40 signatures on this flag. The flag is silk. These were carried folded under the helmet, or even tied to the rifle in a Banzai charge to protect the bearer or otherwise carried in the tunic or haversack. This is the only one we have seen that appears to have done by children.
