Description
This is the classic Chinese military sneaker from the Korean War. This style has been made since the 1950s and was also worn by the Viet Minh in the 1950s and also by the North Vietnamese in the North. The khaki color body was unique to the 1950s and 1960s. The body color was replaced by Kelly green in the 1960s in the PLA but old stocks of these continued to be shipped to the PRC's client states. You will see many pictures of the Viet Minh wearing this shoe. They were also worn in North Vietnam. This shoe, with its slick sole, was not standard issue to the NVA in the South. There, the NVA wore this same style of upper but with a cleated rubber sole better suited to jungle condition. It was however worn by NVA and the population in the North. Many photographs document this in Hanoi, Hai Phong, etc. being worn by military and paramilitary forces. This one is marked in Chinese inside.
