US WWII USMC 2nd Pattern Cross-Flap Canteen Cover, Steel Canteen & Cup, 4th MarDiv, 4th Eng.Bn.

Original era manufacture. US WWII USMC canteen set, with the drain hole in the bottom of the cross-flap cover. Steel bodied canteen with cork, dated 1944, aluminum cup with a steel handle which is dated 1945. The front of the cover displays the tactical emblem and number 81X, indicating 4th Marine Division, 4th Engineer Battalion, HQ Company. The last digit I cannot say, possibly a 4 or a 9.
