Background info: ‎During the ‎3rd Reich‎‎ the Frankish Gauleiter‎‎ Julius Streicher‎‎ made of the Hesselberg a political meeting place for the National Socialists. After the NSDAP‎‎ came to power in 1933, the party rallies developed into the Frankish Days, which were held annually until 1939. Besides the Nuremberg Reichsparteitage, these were the largest Nazi gatherings in Franconia. Hesselberg was called the 'Holy Mountain of the Franks'. The special mixture of popular celebration, political indoctrination and religious experience made the 'Frankish Days' on the Hesselberg after 1933 a central date in the festivity calendar of the National Socialists.
