Description
Original era manufacture. A solid example of the US Army Light Artillery Sword, made by Ames Sword Company of Chicopee Massachusetts in 1862. The 32 inch polished steel blade runs straight and true, with a nice luster to the surface. Scattered areas of surface spotting and staining along it's length, but no real pitting or corrosion issues. Clear US and 1862 date with the inspector initials of JH on the obverse ricasso, the reverse shows the typical faint Ames logo. Mellow brass patina to the guard, with a rack, or issue number of 166 on one side. Most of the leather is missing from the wooden grip, what remains is in the recesses, portions of the original wire binding remain, with plain copper wire elsewhere. Dark steel patina to the steel scabbard with both suspension loops and rings intact.
