US Indian Wars Era 1885-1890, 5th Cavalry Document Group, German Immigrant

Description

Original era manufacture. An interesting lot attesting to the service of Adolph Rahner, who enlisted in the United States Army on August 5th, 1885 for a five year hitch. He completed his service while serving with Troop M, 5th Cavalry, receiving his honorable discharge at Fort Leavenworth Kansas August 4th 1890. Born in Baden Germany, he was 26 years of age at the time of his enlistment, standing 5 foot, 7 inches. During his service his regiment was stationed in the Indian Territory, Camps Rockwell and Schofield. He did not participate in any battles, but did qualify as a marksman in 1887, 88, 89 and 90. The lot includes his 1890 Army Discharge which gives details of Trooper Rahner, an 1891 US Government document granting all rights as a US citizen, and a 1920's era photo of Trooper Rahner in uniform, a copy from an earlier image. The reverse is inscribed 'M Troop 5th Cavalry-1885-1890-Adolph Rahner, our 'Popsy'. The documents have been folded and stored for many years.
