Description

A rare original First World War period French made artillery gun brass shell badge depicting an embossed 'Cross of Lorraine', impressed with '75' with scroll below 'Abbeville'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings. Width 41mm. In 1916 during the Battle of the Somme Abbeville town served as a military hospital (the 3rd Australian General Hospital). In 1918, it was the seat of two Anglo-French conferences between Field Marshal Haig, General Wilson and General Foch.
