A Rare Royal Irish Constabulary 1855 Dated Tower Carbine And Bayonet A rare and well looked after percussion pattern 1840 Calibre .650 Royal Irish Constabulary carbine. The lockplate is stamped with the Crown above VR and Tower 1855. It is therefore dated just after the 1845 to 1849 famine. The barrel bears numerous inspection marks and a War Department Mark. The brass butt tang is marked 'C3975'. ('C' is Constabulary) and a umber '41' (rack number) is marked to left side of the butt. The ramrod is original and stamped with serial no. '2102' and it is proofed by the War Department. The carbine also comes with the correct Lovell locking bayonet. The barrel is 26.5 inches (67.3 cm) long and the overall length of the musket is 43 inches (109.3 cm). The metalwork has age signs and a nice patina. The bore looks in good condition. The woodwork has minor nicks but is in overall good condition. The action is good, it half-cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring
