Description

A scarce Boer War period souvenir pendant fob, sold in aid of the war fund, in the form of a black and white portrait of 'Lord Kitchener' to one side and General Lord Roberts to the other, set within a gilt brass frame. Good condition, complete with original ring fitting, one fox mark to Lord Roberts. Diameter approx 20mm. Designed from a portrait of Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener, from 'South Africa and the Transvaal War', by Louis Creswicke, published 1900. Lord Kitchener died in 1916 near the Orkney Islands, Scotland, when the warship taking him to negotiations in Russia was sunk by a German mine.
