Description

A rare original Victorian period 'Thanet and Herne Harriers flat gilt brass hunt button' bearing the lined serif letters 'TH' the reverse impressed with maker's details 'E.Tautz & Sons London'. Very good condition, complete with original shank. Diameter 22mm. Edward Tautz founded E. Tautz in 1867. The business changed its name to E. Tautz & Sons In 1875. In 1898 the store was completely destroyed by fire. In 1813 the Isle of Thanet Hunt was established. In 1895 the name was changed to Thanet and Herne. Recorded in the 1913 -1914 Bailey's Hunting Directory, but omitted in the 1929 - 1930 edition.
