Description

A scarce original First World War period 'London Telephone Service air raids badge'; large gilt Crowned title circlet 'Air Raids' 'Ducit Amor Patrie' (Love of country leads me), the centre bearing white enamel embossed 'LTS' cypher on seeded ground. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel. Height 40mm. The 'London Telephone Service Air Raids badge' was awarded by the Postmaster General during the First World War 1914 to 1918, as a mark of recognition for the women telephone operators who voluntarily remained at their posts at the exchange during air raids in order that calls relating to aircraft, defence, police, fire brigade, ambulance and other matters of importance would not be effected.
