Description

A rare original fine quality 1915 -1919 Services Rendered medal in appreciation for time spent feeding soldiers and sailors at the free buffet during the First World War, in the form of a 1920 Birmingham hallmarked silver medal, with maker's details for 'MN&WB' (Mappin & Webb Ltd Oxford Street, London), the obverse with embossed details 'SOLDIERS AND SAILORS FREE BUFFET' the reverse '1915 -1919 SERVICES RENDERED TO OVER 7,000,000 MEN', suspended from bar with original silk ribbon inscribed 'LONDON BRIDGE'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings. Diameter 26mm. Height approx 65mm. Lady Limerick organised the London Bridge Station free buffet for serving soldiers and sailors returning home on leave from the front.
