City of London Civic Guard invasion defence home front badge

A scarce original circa 1942 wartime period 'City of London Civic Guard lapel badge'; silver plated example in the form of the City shield from the Coat of Arms' inlaid with white enamel, bearing a red cross and 'Wat Tyler's dagger' in the first quarter; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'J.R.Gaunt London'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel. Height 25mm. 'The City of London Civic Guard' was created in 1942 within the Square Mile as part of the Invasion Defence Scheme, with the Lord Mayor as Commandant.
