THE NAVY IS HERE Altmark Incident battleship badge H.W.Miller

A rare original wartime period possibly a song badge, oxidised silver plated battleship, bearing patriotic red, white and blue enamel scroll inscribed 'THE NAVY IS HERE'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'H.W.Miller Ltd B'Ham 18'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel. Size 39 x 21mm. The phrase 'The Navy's here' became well known in Britain and was used as the title of a book about the Altmark incident the publisher referred to the simple statement which stirred the imagination of the world. A popular song was written by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles and saluted the incident by comparing it with those of Drake, Nelson, Beatty and Fisher.
