'Caffin & Co Ltd' Railway Contractors / Civil Engineers Bridges On National Service Badge

A scarce original circa Second World War period 'Caffin & Co Ltd' low issue numbered home front lapel badge' in the form of a chromium plated shield inlaid with cream and black enamel bearing the companies trade mark below the title 'On National Service'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham' and official low issue number '54'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no stress marks or damage to the enamel. Height approx 25mm. 'Caffin & Co Ltd' was established in 1908. Trade directories show it having an office in Craven Street, London from 1912, at which date the firm was described as 'Railway Contractors', it was incorporated in 1921.
