Description

A rare original circa 1930's period short lived 'Cutty Sark Flying Boat Seaplane gilt and enamel pin badge'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'STRATTON BIRMINGHAM'. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel with minor defects to tail end. Length 50mm. This badge represents the Saunders Roe flying boat. 'Cutty Sark' operated by 'Clyde Flying Boats Service' which was started in 1933 it operated giving pleasure flights from Rowmore Faslane. It is interesting to note that The Duke of Montrose chartered the aircraft for his meetings with the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII at 'ROTHESAY' Isle of Bute, Scotland, this name appearing on the title ribbon scroll of the badge.
